This is a piece i did in a poor neighbourhood,in Alexandria, Egypt
Alexandria, Egypt, 2004. in a poor neighbourhood El Max, in Alexandria, Egypt, I produced a series of colourful stickers with a text in arabics reading: it is possible nowadays to feed and cater for the entire humanity if such is our desire. The stickers were distributed to school children who happilly pasted them on their text books. The same text was written on a wall in the neighbourhood by a young painter who received a pay for the job.

The stickers.
These stickers are used by children everywhere in Egypt. It usually has a blank space where they can write their name, the subject... Instead, I had the text it is possible nowadays to feed and cater for the entire humanity if such is our desire printed on hundreds of them. Kids pasted them as usual and took them to school and into their homes.

We Are the World, video
Winter 2006, the icy wind blows outside while people wait for their evening bus to return to the warmth of their homes. In the glass panel behind them, a Black male, half naked (oblivious of the chilly wether) is lying on his back and esting tones of fresh fruits... and singing "We Are the World" the hit song by United Support Artists for Africa, recorded in the 80's while famine was stricking in Ethiopia. The song helped raised awareness on the plight unfolding in the eastern part of the Black Continent. Today I believe I can sing...

Visa-je, video installation, 2000
The beat of a Pigmee drum hits and heats the air while images of very beautiful dark complexioned African girls, full of innocence and intelligence appear and disappear on a large screen. On the floor paved with a gold-like glittering paper, hundreds of sweets await happily to be stolen by kids. The projectors' lights reflecting on the paper send golden rays to caress the faces of the beauty queens. Here piece shown at the Historic Museum in Bern, Switzerland.

VISA
A year old kid uses his newly gain freedom (through walking) to wander in the space, oblivious of whatever difficulty he may encounter. The camera attempts to catch the movement without interrupting the kid. Thus pure freedom or the dream thereof is captured and registered on tape. The video is shown on a monitor, placed at floor level in front of which. dozens of ready-to-strike mouse-traps are set. Between the spectator and the kid... Work here seen at the National Museum, Accra, Ghana
